Client-Centered Therapy
The client-centered approach is non-directive therapy where the client has control over the direction of the session. This modality, created by Carl Rogers, felt a shift in psychological thought was needed so clients become more empowered. Rather than the therapist guiding the session, Client’s guide their own therapy with the emotional support and insight from the therapist. This approach increases one’s inner resiliency and confidence.
The goal for client’s is self-actualization. Self-actualization is knowing oneself and having the confidence to pursue your purpose. What’s most important is believing you have self-control and mastery over your own life. Client - centered therapy was influenced by the idea of self-esteem as a psychological construct.
As your therapist, I feel it is an important in my role to assist with helping you recognize and build your strengths. We all need resiliency in life the emotional strength of courage to cope with difficult times. With resiliency we can “weather the storms” of change knowing we can take care of ourselves and be guided by a light at the end of the tunnel.
